Welcome to Filmore

Filmore is a residential neighborhood in New Orleans’ Gentilly district, known for its spacious lots, suburban feel, and post-World War II architecture. The area features a mix of raised cottages, brick ranch-style homes, and new constructions designed to reflect traditional New Orleans styles. Bounded by Robert E. Lee Boulevard, Bayou St. John, Harrison Avenue, and the London Avenue Canal, Filmore offers residents and visitors a peaceful environment with easy access to parks like Mirabeau and Pratt, as well as the nearby City Park Golf Course.
The neighborhood derives its name from Filmore Avenue, which runs east to west through the area. While the original spelling was “Fillmore,” over time, the spelling evolved to “Filmore,” reflecting the city’s unique character.
Development in Filmore accelerated in the mid-20th century, particularly after the construction of drainage infrastructure like the Paris Avenue Canal in the 1930s, which made the land suitable for residential use.
