St. Alphonsus Church
St. Alphonsus Church, completed in 1857, is a striking example of Italianate Romanesque architecture in the Lower Garden District. Built by Irish immigrants, the church is adorned with elaborate murals, intricate stained glass, and a breathtaking Italian marble altar.
No longer an active parish, the church now operates as a historic site and cultural venue. Visitors can admire its artistic splendor and learn about the immigrant communities that shaped this part of New Orleans.
