United States Mint
The United States Mint in New Orleans operated from 1838 to 1909, producing millions of gold and silver coins for the U.S. and briefly for the Confederacy during the Civil War. The imposing Greek Revival building now serves as a museum under the Louisiana State Museum system.
Exhibits at the Mint explore topics ranging from coin production to the history of jazz, with performance spaces that honor legendary local musicians. The site connects the city’s financial past with its vibrant cultural present.
