Celtic Cross Monument

The Celtic Cross Monument is a five-foot Irish marble cross erected in 1990 by the Irish Cultural Society of New Orleans to honor the thousands of Irish and German laborers who died building the New Basin Canal from 1832–1838 in swamp-infested conditions. The monument stands as a powerful tribute to immigrant sacrifice and urban development.
