New Orleans' Oldest Fire Hydrant (1869)

At the corner of Moss Street and Grand Route St. John stands what’s recognized as the oldest fire hydrant in New Orleans, installed in 1869. An early Birdsill Holly design, it once let firefighters draw water straight from the bayou with real pressure — a small but genuine slice of city history hiding in plain sight along Bayou St. John.
