Margaret Place
This small triangular park honors Margaret Haughery, the beloved 19th-century philanthropist known as the “Bread Woman” who fed the city’s orphans. At its center stands an 1884 marble statue by Alexander Doyle — often cited as the first public statue of a woman erected in the United States — inscribed simply with her first name. It is a quiet, historic pause just off the busy corridors near the expressway.
